Fractional CTO + Delivery
Technical leadership that doesn't stop at advice.
You need senior technical leadership — whether you're building a new product, modernising your operations, or trying to get more from the technology you already have. Maybe you've tried hiring developers you can't evaluate. Maybe you've worked with agencies who delivered something you can't build on. Maybe you're running a successful business on spreadsheets and gut instinct and you know it's time for something better. Either way, you need a technical partner who can assess your situation, set the direction, and actually execute — not just advise from the sidelines.
What a Fractional CTO actually does
"Fractional CTO" gets used loosely. Here's what it means when I do it — in plain English, no jargon.
Technical direction
Architecture decisions, technology choices, build-vs-buy calls — I make them or validate them with you. You'll always know the reasoning, not just the answer.
Roadmap ownership
I translate your business goals into a prioritised technical roadmap. No backlog grooming theatre — a real plan, connected to outcomes.
Developer evaluation & management
Can't tell a strong developer from a mediocre one? That's my job. I evaluate your existing team, hire or recommend replacements, and manage their output.
Vendor & agency oversight
If you're using external agencies or freelancers, I'll review their work, hold them accountable, and make sure you're not being taken for a ride.
Technical due diligence
Preparing for investment? I'll audit your codebase, infrastructure, and security posture, and produce a DD report that investors actually respect.
A delivery team that executes
Unlike most fractional CTOs, I bring developers. Strategy doesn't sit in a slide deck — it gets built. The team works under my direct technical oversight.
Technology assessment & modernisation
Not sure whether to fix, rebuild, or replace what you have? I'll audit your current systems, processes, and tools — then give you a clear, prioritised plan for what to change and what to leave alone. No unnecessary complexity.
AI & automation readiness
Wondering whether AI or automation can actually help your business — or whether it's just hype? I'll assess where these technologies genuinely apply to your operations and where they don't, so you spend money on what works rather than what's fashionable.
Who this is for
Not every business needs a Fractional CTO. Here are the situations where this engagement model tends to deliver the most value.
Seed-stage startup with a non-technical founding team
You need someone who can make the first technical decisions correctly. The wrong architecture now costs 10× as much to fix in 18 months.
SMB that has outgrown its first developer
You hired a great junior developer who got you to MVP. Now you need someone who can build the team and take you to scale.
Founder preparing for a Series A or strategic acquisition
Technical due diligence will happen. I'll make sure your codebase, infrastructure, and security posture can withstand scrutiny.
Company that's been burned by a previous agency or CTO
You're not starting from scratch — you're trying to salvage or rebuild. I've done this before. It's a different conversation and I'll be honest about what recovery looks like.
Established business ready to modernise
You've been running successfully for years but you know your processes, systems, or tools are holding you back. You're not sure where technology fits, what to prioritise, or how much it should cost. I'll assess your operations, identify the highest-impact opportunities, and build a phased roadmap that respects your budget and your team's readiness.
Business with existing tech that isn't delivering
You invested in software or systems — maybe off-the-shelf, maybe custom-built — and it's not doing what it was supposed to. It's slow, expensive to maintain, or your team has outgrown it. I'll tell you whether to fix it, rebuild it, or replace it, and then make it happen.
Business exploring AI or automation
You've been hearing about AI, automation, and digital transformation. Some of it sounds relevant, most of it sounds like hype. I'll cut through the noise and give you an honest assessment of what these technologies can realistically do for your specific business — and what they can't.
How the engagement works
Most engagements start with a two-week discovery phase. I review your codebase, understand your business goals, talk to your existing team if you have one, and come back with a clear picture of where you are and what needs to happen next.
After that, I work on a monthly retainer. You're not signing up for a 12-month contract — but I do recommend a minimum three-month commitment because meaningful technical progress takes time. Most clients stay for considerably longer.
I don't do 90-slide proposals. You'll know what I think in plain language, you'll understand what I'm recommending and why, and we'll agree on what success looks like before we start.
Why me
I spent years as a senior engineer before becoming Head of Engineering at a London fintech. I know what good technical leadership looks like from the inside, not just from consultancy frameworks.
I've worked across fintech, healthtech, and government/defence — including projects that required SC clearance. I understand regulated environments, security requirements, and what happens when the stakes are high.
I don't sell you a team and disappear. I lead your engagement personally. The accountability sits with me.
Let's talk about your situation
I don't quote before I understand what you actually need. Book a call and we'll work out together whether this is the right fit — and if not, I'll tell you that too.
